Weather maps turn dark red as 32C heatwave creeps towards UK (2024)

A scorching European heatwave could be edging its way to Britain.

New weather maps are glowing as red as a furnace as baking heats of up to 32C burn parts of France, Belgium and Germany.

Now a weather expert says that the blistering heat could ravage the UK too - particularly in the south east - but says it’s down to the toss of a coin on whether it’ll happen.

The WXCharts maps show the conditions on Saturday, July 13 - but so far reveal that the UK is set to be a lot cooler in comparison on that day.

The top temperature in Britain is predicted to be 21C in the Colchester - and there is a fairly warm 19C forecast for the most northern part of Scotland.

Weather expert Jim Dale, senior meteorologist and founder of British Weather Services, said that Europe is certainly set to be roasting - but it’s touch and go as to whether it’ll reach the UK.

He said: “Certainly most of Europe is in the oven. We are still on the edge as far as I can see.

“Could go either way but South East England fave to join the throng.”

The Met Office issues a long range weather forecast which covers from Friday, July 5 until Sunday, July 14 and there is no mention of a heatwave - however it does say that it will “feel warm” on some days.

It said: “This period is likely to see a continuation of the changeable conditions, with occasional bands of rain moving in from the west or northwest."

It adds: “There will be a good deal of dry, warm, and settled weather in between frontal systems, with the best conditions most likely in the south and east where winds will be lighter.

“In contrast, further north and west, it will generally be breezier, and any rain that does occur will be heaviest over the hills.

“Cloud cover will vary, with cloudier weather expected in the north and west, while clearer skies are likely in the south and east.

“Temperatures will be around or a little below average for the time of year, but on sunnier days with lighter winds, it will still feel warm.”
