Art museum

Museums

The Museum of Fine Arts Dijon, located in the former palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, contains major collections of western art from the 14th-19th century. After a nine-year renovation, the museum has become a work of art itself and is one of France's most outstanding museums. The Salle des Gardes is a notable exhibit featuring ornately carved sepulchres from late medieval times.

Another of the great Musee des Beaux Arts of France, originally established just before the French Revolution. Many magnificent art pieces from antiquity to the modern day. Also houses the tombs of Dukes of Burgundy. The building itself is part of the palace of the Dukes of Burgundy.

Nice Museum, very well renovated mixing modern display and traditional aesthetic.Sculptures, paintings, ancient and more modern art will be available for free, it is a very unique initiative from the city of Dijon.Well served with 2 elevators too

Giorgio I — Google review

Lovely museum, a nice mixture of art, sculpture and modern art. The real treat is to see the school groups. These children put up their hands for questions and are eager to answer. They will cope well with the abstract.

Monet L — Google review

Definitely worth a visit and should allocate empty time for it. There's no overcrowding so ot is quiet and you can take your time..And, it's free entry.

Lay H — Google review

The Dukes of Bourgondy took the belfrey clock of Kortrijk and placed it on the Notre Dame at Dijon in order for the 'Jaquemart' to strike each hour of the day. But it wouldnt be the only artifact that the Dukes would take from Flanders. As the power of the Dukes rose, so as well did the cultural richness as they ordered several most reknown artist of the time to excell on their artwork. Although the French revolution destroyed the church where the richness of the Dukes was ment to survive the ages, the tombs survived so we can still witness how Klaus slu*ter sculpted the 'plearants' in order to grieve for the Duke and his whife. But there is much more to see than only the medieval art. Certaibly wirthwhile the visit.

Bart E — Google review

What a great museum this is and it is free (in the summer). Absolute must see in Dijon.

Pascal C — Google review

This is an exceptional monument that is home to over 1500 art works, dating from antiquity to present day. Visitors will enjoy an artistic journey through centuries of masterpieces that make this gallery one of the best and most visited in France. Entry is free..

Stu W — Google review

Nice museum although the directions to follow for going around the museum were somewhat patchy.Plenty of oil paintings on canvas, a good section on sculpture, covering especially on François Pompon. The other very interesting parts were on the history of Burgundy and its four dukes.Unless I missed it, I was surprised of not seeing anything about Gustave Effeil whom has we know built the Effeil Tower and was born and grew up in Dijon

Frederic D — Google review

Free entry but you need to go to the counter to get a little ticket before you cross into the galleries. I think it's just to find out where you come from for research purposes. The owl walk comes through here (see my other post) There's a small but nice green patch out the front if you need a rest.

Beautiful place with loads of art, a wide variety of it, and a bit of history! The Duke and duch*esses tombs are particularly impressive.

Lydia — Google review

This museum is a must-see in Dijon with artwork from as early as the 14th century. It demonstrates the evolution of art from two to three-dimensional art employing more artistic technique & introducing light and depth.

Rick H — Google review

Superb museum in a historical setting (palace of Burgundian dukes). What can be better? Well, it’s also free (permanent exhibition). The museum is not too big, so your mind can digest it and the collection is really stunning- starting from Middle Ages right to the XX centuries modernism. Amazing to see all those emotions portrayed by the artists- fear, hate, love, compassion. All this go through centuries of art. Sometimes you can feel yourself in the middle of the battle or a tragic mythological scene. I truly enjoyed this museum.

Ein wunderschönes Museum der Entdeckungen - auch Modelle aus slu*ters Arbeiten in der Chartreuse (Moses-Brunnen) den wir morgens sahen. Great museum with a lot of different exhibitions and displays, ranging from the history of the building itself to medieval up to 20C art as well as some contemporary exhibits at the very top floor of the museum. Free of charge to view the permanent collection but you have to pay to see the temporary exhibition.

Kristina A — Google review

Cool museum with a huge exhibition of art pieces. Interesting architecture of the space and friendly staff of the museum. If you are visiting Dijon and have some time for museums, I would recommend to visit Musee des Beaux-Arts.

Nick A — Google review

The entrance is on the side of the large building that was once the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. The collection spans a long period and is not so special. Sometimes you see an item that stands out but most of it you just pass. What is impressive are the tombs of the Dukes of Burgundy which are best seen from a balcony above. The museum is a maze of galleries with stairs and elevators everywhere. Navigation is a bit difficultEntrance is free.

Seimen B — Google review

This is an excellent museum, which welcomes visitors and is set in an excellent location full of history in its own right. It is free to enter and being a non French speaker, unlike my wife, I found the English translation at the foot of most labels really helpful. The descriptions and explanations are written in a friendly and informative manner that make you eager to learn more.My favourite discovery was about the 'mourners', a fascinating set of sculptures that accompany the tombs of Philip the bold and John the fearless. I was therefore excited to find miniatures of the mourners in the excellent gift shop, one of which now adorns my shelf at home. I can thoroughly recommend this as a must see venue.

David T — Google review

I enjoyed my visit. The artwork is thoughtfully displayed, and there was a surprising number of sculptures. Admission is free to view the permanent collection.

Stephen L — Google review

Amazing museum in an amazing city. The museum is objectively small, only three floors, but what a chic and amazing exposition. I'm not talking about the fact that the entrance is free. This is absolutely and very important for all visitors, especially for those who go with the whole family and who want to join the works of art. And of course many thanks for this to the city. Where I was, I have not seen this anywhere else, it is unique, many thanks to the city for this ones more. Exposition from ancient times to the present day, very good logistics of rooms, very good arrangement of paintings, spacious halls - all this in general is conducive to a calm viewing of the collection.100% recommendation!

Io L — Google review

Its free, has amazing architecture to look at and some outstanding art as well. Just for the ceilings in some rooms it is worth a visit though. Go to the top floor and onto the balcony of the dukes to look at the coffins.

Tour Philippe Le Bon is a 316 step tower located in the home of one of Dijon's most famous museums. The tower once served as the residence of Duke Philippe le Bon and his rich symbols are still visible in the ornate carvings on the spiral stairwell. On a bright day, you can enjoy panoramic views of Dijon city and its suburbs from the top of Tour Philippe Le Bon.

I honestly thought the climb would be harder. I didn’t get winded, and the stairs were wide enough not to have to “grapevine” sideways up and down them. The tour was really inexpensive, as well as informative! And there were a few breaks in the ascent to learn about the tower’s history, and catch your breath if necessary. And the views are incomparable!

K J — Google review

It is the best place to enjoy a panoramic view of Dijon city. It is an unforgettable part of your trip to France. To climb the tower, you need to book a tour, which can be done online or at the tourist information office. After booking on the Internet, I had a problem with my schedule, but after consulting with the tourist information office, they changed the time for my booking kindly.Tours are offered in both French and English. Tour guid explains the history of tower with climbing the tower.

Third visit to Dijon and still haven't managed to get up the tower. It would be better if they opened more often and would be helpful if the ticket office was located by the tower door, not further round the town

A beautiful square in the center of Dijon with lots of restaurants and local shops to buy products from this area.During summer it's very busy with tourists but that makes the square a living area. The buildings are having the beautiful French architecture which makes the place a must to visit when you're in Dijon

Erwin N — Google review

Took the guided tour because it was included in the city pass. The guide spoke English well, and conducted the tour bilingually. The facts she gave seemed meager, and few went beyond facts and numbers off a Wikipedia page. She also didn't seem very interested in taking or answering questions. A good guide with some passion could make it more interesting without a doubt.View from the top was nice.

Bas B — Google review

Buy tour tickets in advance online or at tourism office. 300+ steps up to the top. Nice view at the top.

Bryan C — Google review

The view is nice, the guided tour is only valuable if you speak french. Otherwise you get a few sentences but not much. The tour guide is not flexible. So if you are more than 2 people make sure to book in advance. We were a group of 7 and 1 of us, saying again 1 of us had to take another tour group.

Another handy bicycle sharing station in Dijon just on the same street as Église Notre Dame de Dijon. Not much to write except it's a tribute to this city of Dijon for maintaining this very convenient and efficient transportation alternative. Fun short cave trip with unique boat ride. Not a very large cave tour but interesting non the less and nice guides. Also go down to the river down below on 1 minute distance in the village its very beautiful.

Jan P — Google review

Visited at the end of April. The town itself is well worth your time. Meandering local streets filled with centuries old buildings by the river and a walk up to the grotto takes you back to other times. The grotto was an interesting side visit especially since you get in a boat to meander up and down the cave section that has an interesting history both timeless and fascinating. Very quiet tourist wise that time of year so no battle for parking or queues to get in. Kids will love the boat ride in the “dark".

Daggy B — Google review

Small cave well presented by the guides. The tour includes a boat trip inside. Not that spectacular though.

Ciprian C — Google review

A nice view of the cave with a great story written around the cave. Very entertaining, cool to sit in a boat in a cave without an engine. Once it falls silent its quite eerie.Didn't know what to expect going in, but exceeded any expectation I had.The town outside and the source of the river are also very picturesque and worth a visit.Sadly not really a place to get a nice lunch when we visited.

Boyd H — Google review

Great tour! First walk to boats then float along the river then walk in a new chamber and go back in the boat to the other side and then back out.. about 30 min in total of nature's wonders. Beautiful lighting in the caves makes worth this tour!

B. — Google review

I love this cave. It's a really beautiful semi-submerged cave system. Not huge, but definitely worth a visit. The subterranean boat trip is magical and the guides are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. My one and only criticism is that they do not pay their workers, instead calling them "volunteers" and paying them 100% with tips. When you have an €8 entrance fee and minimal upkeep, this shows a lack of morals from the owners and detracted from an otherwise wonderful experience. If they paid their staff it would be 5 stars.

Leo S — Google review

Very nice visit in a calm atmosphere. We were there end April hence not a lot of visitor...all the quieter! The promenade in a boat moved by man power pulling on a rope was really an experience. Splendid pools of waters. You woul wish to dive in however the 11 degrees keep you from doing so. The guide was mindful and explained well in French.

Stopped here today (26/9/23)and the public walkways are still closed. It is an amazing structure and well worth stopping to see and photograph. There is no work going on - there doesn’t appear to be anything structural needed as trains are still crossing. A unique place for Art Nouveau lovers.“École de Nancy, or the Nancy School, was a group of Art Nouveau artisans and designers working in Nancy, France between 1890 and 1914. Major figures included the furniture designer Louis Majorelle, ebonist and glass artist Jacques Grüber, the glass and furniture designer Émile Gallé, and the crystal manufactory of Daum. Their work was largely inspired by floral and vegetal forms found in the region. The goal of the group was to produce in series ordinary objects, such as furniture, glassware, and pottery, with fine craftsmanship and in original forms, making art objects available for people's homes” from wikipedia

In the garden, there is an outdoor café (at least in the summer) where people can have some rest and have a drink after visiting the museum.

Olesya — Google review

This is a really rare gem in Nancy when it comes to Art Nouveau! I really read up it's history before I visited and its absolutely worth it. It's not too far from the city centre and Nancy railway station. You can get information about transportation to the museum from the tourism office. It started in 1964 and house in a former private château by the famous glassmaker, Émile Gallé. It's surrounded by a beautiful garden with an aquarium pavilion and a funeral monument in art nouveaux style. The main building has two sections of which one was built in late 1800s and the other in 1912 by architect, Lucien Weißenburger. Inside is just breathtaking and it doesn't follow a certain order but rather grouped in a way to reflect how art nouveaux style fits into the everyday. From stunning vases and glass bowls by Émile Gallé to spectacular lamps by Louis Majorelle (of the Daum factory displaying in Nancy Musée des Beaux-Arts) and bedroom and dining room furnishings! There's two levels of absolutely exquisite collections from leadlight glassware to furnitures and more. There's no lift access to the second level but it's wheelchair friendly entrance and the first floor exhibition and the garden. I left absolutely inspired and impressed with this art form of what's rarely known as modern style noodle style that draws on the aesthetic of curved lines! As a reaction against excessive industrialization and heavily reproduced old style arts, art nouveau sets remarkable new waves of aesthetic beauty in artform. I highly recommend visiting this gem of a museum and really appreciate this art movement of art nouveaux in the city that started it all, Nancy. It costs a mere €6.00 and absolutely worth it and suitable for all ages.

Antoine M — Google review

What an amazing museum, a must visit for anyone who can appreciate design, architecture and craftsmanship.A real gem that is located on the outer suburbs of the city this museum is an amazing collection of Art Nuevo interiors, furniture and ceramics.Spear over two floors there is a lot to see, a free app allows you to either have the displays described to you with history behind the making and collection of pieces. Alternatively you can also read from the screen of the phone. It’s worth taking headphones if you can to listen to the audio guide.Overall entry was cheap and the museum wasn’t very busy so we could see all the interiors and furniture uninterrupted (We visited at the end of April).

The Museum of Fine Arts in Nancy is a landmark art museum with a distinguished collection that spans from the 14th to 19th centuries. Highlights include works by masters such as Perugino, Tintoretto and Jan van Hemessen, as well as pieces by Picasso, Monet and Caravaggio. The museum also has a impressive collection of furniture, including paintings by impressionists and moderns.

A very descent collection for a local art museum. There are definitely some problems with the lightning as sometimes I needed time to find a good spot to see all the details without reflects. Anyway, if you want a quiet hour for inspiration without being overwhelmed, that’s the place to be in Nancy. Also there is a painting by Lucian Freud!

What an odd snd unjust reaction! One short man lounging on the side came an inch from and angrily barked: “you’re telling me I’m now doing my job?!!”Huh? What? What is this strange man on about? The other staff (two women and a older skinny man) said nothing while this little hot head escalated things. And then came the act of class and professionalism from other security staff: two Old men came and jumped to conclusions and verbally assaulted me. The larger of the two bumped into me and told meTo get out.The ignorance and lack of professionalism from staff here is palpable. I suppose it must be extremely difficult to find professionally trained security staff in France that one must hire from the bottom of barrel. This is a ticking time bomb , especially if management wants to ensure guests feel safe and works of art are secured! Will someone get shot by security for reporting a fire?

Tom A — Google review

Large variety of different art styles. Nice building. Pretty square next to it.

Simon B — Google review

Love the artwork! So many beautiful paintings however the staff here were so rude, lazy and unprofessional! I saw security staff checking their phones rather than doing their job and when my friend reported someone touching a painting security staff attacked him instead of doing anything about the problem! Wow! This gives a very poor impression and a very poor experience to us visitors!

Variety is the spice of life and so is this museum. For every style of art there is a painting or object in this museum. The art ranges from the European middle ages through to the modern era, with an Asian art section and a Jewish art section. What I found exciting is the layout of the floors. It isn't just square rooms with art on the walls... It has nooks and crannies that entice you to explore the whole building. This gives the visitor some unexpected suprises in discovering new, unexpected spaces and art.In the basem*nt is an ancient wall that was found through archaeological digs, with a huge Daum, art nouveau glass and art deco glass vases up through until modern times. It was a pleasure for the eyes as the collection is colorful and quite extensive.Throughout the building there are some English translations about, art but it is limited. I would suggest using a Google Lens with translation feature if you aren't fluent in reading French. There is also a museum app that is used for an audiotour, but i didn't use it.Highly recommended if visiting Nancy.

Olesya — Google review

Loved the museum. It got better the further in we went, in my opinion. The beginning hosts many old, religion inspired, pieces which I always find impressive but overwhelmingly nonsensical and rather boring. More modern art can be found on the lower floors and in the basem*nt area.Entry is free under 27 years old and costs 10€ for anyone older.

TheBassBailey — Google review

We were fortunate enough to visit on a Sunday where the entrance was free.We really enjoyed looking at the art, from the more modern to medieval style. The room with all the mirrors and lighter was mesmerizing!

The P — Google review

Lovely place to wonder for a few hours. The glass exhibition in the basem*nt was beautiful and unexpected.

Rachel S — Google review

Great space and wonderful paintings. The glassworks section interesting though not my main interest. Definitely recommend!

Maria P — Google review

Lot of great art pieces, whose all got the attention they need. Downside, much arts from the 17th century instead of from different time periods. The historical touch in the basem*nt is a good addition. I would recommend this place.

Wilco W — Google review

The Musée contains a good collection of art from the middle ages to contemporary. There is a good section on Daum glassware in the basem*nt which I suspect you wouldn't find else where. The collection turned out larger than I had expected so give yourself some time and maybe do some research first!

The neoclassical Place Stanislas is a large, impressive square in the center of the city that is home to many of the city's important sights and institutions. The square is famous for its lavish iron railings and fountains, as well as its statue of Duke Stanislaus Leszczynski.

Definitely a must visit when in that area. you can easily stay hours and look around at the gold plated astonishing buildings from centuries ago. There are Cafes to sit outside and enjoy a sunny day, the cathedral and a church in walking distance and a park to wander around. There is a parking garage near by, with really tiny spaces but def. worth while stopping there. There is also a Christmas market there so that is def. another great place to go during the Christmas season. So make sure Nancy is on your list of places to see in France

Sonja M — Google review

A beautiful square albeit not the most scintillating UNESCO site. Interesting history to read about and nice art museum right there.

Graham G — Google review

Place Stanislas is impressive, royal, clean and friendly. It has an Austrian atmosphere with big light-colored houses in style surrounding it. Absolutely worthwhile to visit and discover other historic sceneries around Nancy

Jules S — Google review

I had the pleasure of visiting Place Stanislas in mid-April, and it was indeed a delightful experience. This historic square, with its stunning architecture and intricate design, is a must-visit when in Nancy. In addition to its historical allure, Place Stanislas boasts a selection of charming cafes and restaurants, perfect for indulging in delicious cheesecakes and refreshing drinks while soaking in the ambiance. For families, there's a nearby park where children can play and unwind, making it an ideal destination for visitors of all ages to enjoy a day out in Nancy.

Gagan — Google review

Its the most beautiful square both during day and night. It looks like some royal square. During St Nikolas Day, there are light shows and beautiful decorations. This is the best time to visit to witness these beautiful decorations here.

Sandeep K — Google review

Beautiful square. It is very clean and well taken care of. It looks like it was build just yesterday, but it is there since more then 100 years. It has beautiful lighting at night. This summer there where beautiful lightshows on the buildings.

L. V — Google review

Check out the summer night time light show! Place Stanislas continues to be a beautiful sight to see and have a coffee, lunch, or dinner in the square. But now after dark enjoy a laser light show across the buildings. Grab an ice cream before or after the show.

Peter D — Google review

Such a sizeable Square, it is stunning with the building, gates and other fixtures. It is dotted with Brasseries all around. You will not starve, especially at night. Food is fabulous and plenty to drink. And you will find a friend, it's not hard.

George L — Google review

Stanislas has a significant importance in Nancy. It was classified as the favourite monument for France in 2021 and I will tell you why from my perspective: it is historical , big that it can host a parade in december, light show in Summer and winter, 'jardin éphèmere in October' and so much more events. There are restaurants/coffes/ museums/opera around this place. You can enjoy ice cream and delicious food or just sit in the chairs for people who came to admire the place/sun or lights. In special occasions, the lights of the buildings around Stanislas change like 'pink october, ..etc'. You can also visit 'hotel de ville' and enjoy the view from above.

Khouloud S — Google review

Famous square surrounded by beautiful buildings and four golden gates. Don't forget to have some pastis on one of the terraces and to walk through the park that can be through the gate next to restaurant Michelangelo.

Sander H — Google review

Beautiful example of a large European town square. It's so grand and decorative. There are a lot of cafes and restaurants in the square which created a great atmosphere. We sat in the middle of the square in the mid afternoon and enjoyed the sun and the buzz of all of the people running around, eating and talking.I especially loved the grand, curved, fences at each of the corners. Painted opulently in black and gold.

TheBassBailey — Google review

An unexpected gem. Stanislas Square is beautiful, and even better at dusk or in the dark. Lots of restaurants and bars to sit down and savour the atmosphere.

If you're in Nancy, you have to come here. It is the centre of the old town, surrounded by centuries of history, great, very well-maintained buildings and part of the historic route. The gleaming golden portals leading in all directions give it a special flair.

Craig D — Google review

Place Stanislas is the major landmark of Nancy and one of the most beautiful squares in France, if not even all of Europe. There is no charge to enter the square and it is lovely to stroll. Many cafés and tourist shops can be found here.A visit should take at least 20 to 30minutes and you can easily spend more time exploring the area around. It is a major tourist attraction in Eastern France and UNESCO world heritage site.

Philipp S — Google review

This is definitely a must go if you are in Nancy. It is just beautiful with the old town buildings and since it's the centre of the old town, there is a 15 minute long light show every night at 10PM.

Davids J — Google review

Lee P — Google review

Commonly known as The Nursery as it's English translation or colloquially as The Pep, this is almost 22 hectares of park and garden inside a green space of over fifteen hundred hectares. Named as the nursery as Stanislas Leszczyński, former king of Poland, used this space as trees nursery to be planted along Nancy's streets. It's supposedly designed in a checkerboard style (perhaps better observed from above or when the leaves are growing in summer to appreciate the perpendicular shape). It's well laid out near Stanislas Square and alongside Place de la Carrière, with rose gardens, playground and carousel for kids, sporting spaces, puppets theatre, an art deco garden theatre, a music kiosk and so much more. Accessible to everyone and it's wheelchair friendly. Great for family outings or just a stroll and soak up the atmosphere.

Located in the centre of Nancy next to Place Stanislas, the Pépinière park is a wonderful green place for families and couples. It has a rose garden, a mini zoo where peaco*cks freely wander around, a great playground, sports field, merry-go-round and children's rides. It also has a small cafe and ice cream stand. There are many floral displays, also wooden architecture exhibitions and beautiful paths with ancient and exotic trees for a stroll. Magnificent and calming place.!

Situated in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department, it offers a joyful and welcoming atmosphere for celebrating weddings. The hotel is close to the Lorraine Regional Natural Park, making it an ideal location for nature lovers and hikers. Guests have praised the friendly staff, spacious and quiet rooms, as well as the beautiful architecture of the building.

Beautiful and historical abbaye. We did a Self guided tour of the grand chapel and beautifully landscaped gardens. Very nice attraction in the small town of Pont à Mousson

l'Abbaye des Prémontrés with its simple rooms, fitting the quietness of the surroundings, has a super friendly staff and is strategically situated between Metz and Nancy. I slept like a rose.

Rob H — Google review

Very nice building. Stunning medieval architecture and partly well kept gardens. However, the hotel part where I stayed in is not really top. Rooms are clean but cheaply decorated and outdated. Above all very noise. Two very small singlebeds in a double room. Hallways are not very well illuminated on the way to the room, at least on second floor. The curtains do not darken the room very well. Woke up at 5 because of the daylight in the room with curtains fully closed. No air-conditioning in rooms. After request I was given a ventilator. Rooms not in line with the requested price and the prestige and atmosphere of the building. All in all a mixed experience.

Marcel D — Google review

Beautiful building, big rooms (not very modern), good service - easy to find, free parking available.

Celina S — Google review

Your experience here will depend on the type of room you’ll book. If you book the more expensive one, situated in the Abbey you’ll love the place. Great atmosphere, tranquility and spacious rooms that have been recently renovated. Staff is super friendly. The breakfast was ok, but slightly overpriced.

Reyn D — Google review

Beautiful buildings, located right on the river. The entire complex is actually a cultural centre. Breakfast is in a magnificent room. The hotel rooms are a little minimalist but you should expect that in a former abbey, I think. Helpful receptionists.

Malcolm G — Google review

Exceptionally friendly and very qualified staff. Exceptional clerical building atmosphere. Rooms are spacious and very quiet (real walls!). Breakfast choice could be improved. But I highly recommend to stay there as it is probably the best choice in the town, and it is an unusual building in a remarkably outstanding setting. A lot of families stay there as well, but as the building is well built, also as single traveler you dont get disturbed.

Markus — Google review

Great hotel and super nice lady at the front desk! The hotel is located in a beautiful old abbey, a wonderful place on the River Moselle. The room was very quiet and nice as well. The breakfast was a rich Buffet. We are long-distance hikers and let deliver our bags always by taxi to our next hiking destination. The nice Madame at the front desk was from Toul, our next destination, and transported our bags for free to our next hotel there.Thank you very much Madame, there are still nice people in the world!

Really a beautiful hotel, still has the ambiance of a 100 years ago. Had a family room that was really big. Beds are good only thing is that you cant open the windows vert wide in the family room. Probably for safety but that made it quite warm in the room.Breakfast was good, nice and fresh croissants and a good choise of things you can put on it.The surroundings are great for cycling and hiking.

The primary railway station of Metz, also known as the Station Palace due to its former use as residences for German officials, has been designated a Historic Monument since 1975. The building is notable for its unique features such as the attractive facade, roof, departure hall, honorary lounge and interior decoration of the restaurant. It stands out from other train stations due to its exceptional architecture and design.

Beautiful station from the outside. There is a Starbucks and other food options inside. Trains to Luxembourg should be paid only to Bettembourg as public transportation in Luxembourg is free. Only one hour and a half from Paris, Strasbourg and Reims.

The main station of Metz, like many other things there, is very worth seeing, for those who are also interested in train stations. Art Nouveau from 1905-1908 and historical "heaviness", inside bright and clean, modern and pleasant. Especially at Christmas beautiful lighting of the building and forecourt with very large Christmas symbols. Projections on the opposite wall. On November 21, commemoration and flowers at the monument of Charles A.J.M. de Gaulle (1890-1970).

Stefan M — Google review

The station in Metz was a central point of plans for a new urban area in Metz, now called the Imperial Quarter, which was built during the first annexation of Metz into the German Empire. In order to "Germanify" the city, Kaiser Wilhelm II decided upon the creation of a new district shaped by a distinctive blend of Germanic architecture. The district was conceived by German architect Conrad Wahn and is now commonly called the Imperial District. The railway station constitutes the cornerstone of this district, not far from the historic downtown. Its first aim was military usage[citation needed] and it had to answer a strategic need: For the success of the Schlieffen plan, the Kaiser had to be able to transport his troops from France to Russia in just 24 hours. This resulted in a sizeable station with platforms large enough to accommodate troops on foot and on horseback. So the Metz railway station was directly linked to Berlin via the Cannons Railway.

Zubeyr S — Google review

A stunning station surrounded by a beautiful piazza. Very clean station, friendly and helpful staffs. It still one beautiful railway station that had been upgraded especially for more user-friendly atmosphere with cafés, electronic devices charging stations etc. There's public convenience inside and it costs €.90 to use. There's bus stop and taxis just outside the railway square. Have been at this station a few times while holidaying in France and its still as clean and efficient as always.

The museum’s design is amazing. But the quality of exhibited art works is not that impressive. It could have been somewhat educational if it was free, but it’s not. So you might like it if you’re REALLY into modern art, but otherwise don’t bother.P.S.: Added photos of the only few examples which seemed interesting.

Absolutely mesmerized by this Centre Pompidou-Metz. The exhibitions are all very interesting and I am happy to visit this museum while we are stopping by at Metz for half a day. Highly recommended for any museum lovers! One of a kind 🖼️

A beautiful designed museum from 2010 designed by Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines. It has a timber roof structure in the form of a hexagon covered with a waterproof membrane creating beautiful light inside.

Centre Pompidou-Metz is a great contemporary art changeable exhibitions venue.Plus the building it self is a great architecture landmark, I hardly recommend everybody to visit it, whatever you are interested in contemporary art or not, there will be a reason for your joy there.

Hamdy R — Google review

Extremely easy to get lost here! The exhibits are fantastic, smart, and always have an acute logic to them. Visiting the center is a real pleasure.

Sybil C — Google review

Centre Pompidou Metz is a stunningly designed exposition building. Any architect should at least have been in it to value how design can open up to possibilities, instead of dictating usage. The way expositions are facilitated by the buildings structure and its surrounding, and how curators used it in their summer-expositions of 2023 ("Bonne Chance", "Worldbuilding", "Repetition", etc.), was like wandering in a dream.Thank you!

I'm a local, and it's one of my top five things to do here. I live in Metz and I go regularly to see "Le Pompidou" it all again. It's amazing and cool. I love all the exhibitions and also the activities and workshops they propose. It's a very creative environment. The staff is also very caring and willing to help or give you information. Come and marvel!

Lika the atmosphere in Metz! Nice exhibition on art and psychoanalysis !

Nonna Z — Google review

It is the Pompidou Museum, so you expect boundary-pushing art, and that was sure the case on the 3rd floor of this museum. It had all kinds of digital arts that are trying to answer social and philosophical questions of life. A bonus was the ability to interact with the video-game-like art.... Like playing a game.Very fun for kids and family. On the second floor there was art by French artist Susanne Valadon. She focused on the human body and was the first artist to paint an unclothed man from the front. The exhibition is comprehensive and shows her entire oeuvre. Her art is bright, colourful and eye-catching.The first floor had contemporary, abstract art.Overall, definitely worth a visit, but I would recommend coming in early. I experienced quite a queue when it opened.

Robin I — Google review

Interstate building and the exhibition “Bon Chance” totally worthy of the trip from Strasbourg.

Myroessa M — Google review

One of the best modern museums I have crossed in my life. The collections that we saw were sooo well displayed and so interesting. Spent hours there and enjoyed every minute.Keep it up for whoever is managing the place and choosing the art.

The Centre Pompidou in Metz is an amazing museum that deserves more recognition. The artworks they showcase, ranging from classic to contemporary, are truly exceptional. The building itself is a masterpiece and worth a visit in its own right. Don't miss out on their museum shops, which are curated with great stuff. Highly recommended for art lovers and a hidden gem for visitors!

Cathedral

Sights & Landmarks

Metz Cathedral is a massive and ornate Gothic cathedral in Metz, France. It is popularly called the 'Gods lantern' for its incredible collection of medieval stained glass windows, some of which are brightly coloured and imaginative. The cathedral is home to one of the highest naves in the world and boasts an impressive array of lacy golden spires.

It is a great place. We have been there for a Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately did not see any ceremony happening but just visiting and walking around was enough too. The cathedral is very clean with high ceilings and Colourful detailing of both architecture and art . You need to spend hours to get the meaning of the message transferred via pictures on the mosaic glass walls

Ruzanna K — Google review

This cathedral isn’t as famous as other cathedrals in France or Europe but it rivals them in terms of its beauty. It is large but has intricately detailed decor. The stonework was phenomenal in both quantity and quality. The interior was amazing and I was taken with the incredible stained glass windows. I didn’t pay them enough attention at first so be sure to look carefully at them. Wonderful feat of engineering.

C H — Google review

I only saw the outside since I got there after-hours, but it is a magnificent building. If you're in the area and have an opportunity to go Metz, definitely go and definitely add the cathedral to the list. Also, if you can see the light show (which may be hard to do depending on train schedules and your transportation needs), I would highly recommend!

Shaden M — Google review

I am not a believer and I often criticise the people who believe in God but I have visited Metz Cathedral twice and my thoughts were the same... God exists. He is the mind of the people who designed this building, He is the arms of the men that built it.

Nikos F — Google review

Gorgeous stained glass, and a joy to visit at any time but especially when the sun is streaming directly through the windows. I wish I understood the stories depicted by the windows, but alas. Even if you’re like me and can’t understand the stories or aren’t religious, this is a beautiful place to pause during the day and take in the sights.

Angie Z — Google review

A stunning place to visit in Metz. Mostly the glass windows are so amazing to observe. I recommend to visit the place during daylight hours, cause it's so magical to watch the lightened up glasses with the sunlight.

Nethmi J — Google review

One of the most beautiful Cathedrals I have visited. Very impressive from the outside and even more impressive inside. The Cathedral has beautiful stained glass windows. Absolute must-see in Metz!

Eduard V — Google review

Shocked by how stunning this cathedral was. It was absolutely enormous. Perhaps the largest church I’ve ever been in. The outside is an architectural wonder, but the inside takes your breath away with its sheer elevation and open space. If you are into European churches, this is a must see. Even if you’re not, I’d still say you shouldn’t miss it if in Metz.

Kevin M — Google review

Beautiful church in the center of the city. It’s a paradise for architectural enthusiasts. The cathedral is quite large and well build. They had Christmas decorations the time we went there. There is a small Christmas market just adjacent of the church.Definitely recommend to visit.

Thejus — Google review

American Review 🇺🇲 - Beautiful decently large church. Loved all the stained glass. Free to get in, but you can pay to do a tour. It's definitely worth a visit! It's not like you can miss it when visiting Metz. 🤣

Allie V — Google review

Absolutely fabulous, the interior and exterior are unbelievable to see. Well, worth a visit if you are in the area.

Andy — Google review

One of my top 5 favorite cathedrals in Europe. The stained glass is absolutely spectacular. Such a beautiful work of art!

Tela R — Google review

Metz Cathedral, located in Metz which is between Paris and Strasbourg, is an extraordinary example of Gothic architecture. Its towering spires and intricate stained glass windows are truly impressive. Inside, the Rose Window is a highlight. This cathedral's historical and architectural significance makes it a captivating destination, offering a glimpse into the past. It's free to enter and you can buy and light candles inside. Highly recommended!

Sanka I — Google review

Metz Cathedral is located in the city center and can be seen from afar. The cathedral was built around 1220 and is a fantastic example of Gothic architecture. There are many ornate statues and decorative elements on the outer walls. The cathedral has a fantastic interior area, with a very high ceiling and large stained glass windows. The cathedral can be viewed almost completely and photos can also be taken. Entry is free

Simon G — Google review

It's amazing to step inside such an old cathedral. This building has one of the largest collections of stained glass in the world. There are many well-known artists who have contributed to it. It is also very interesting to see a model of the cathedral showing what was built in each century during its many changes.

Chris H — Google review

Metz Cathedral is a breathtaking masterpiece, adorned with intricate details that leave one in awe. The sheer grandeur of the structure is awe-inspiring and captures the essence of history. It's unfortunate that the historical information texts are exclusively in French, which might pose challenges for non-French-speaking tourists. Nevertheless, the cathedral's beauty and architectural richness transcend language barriers, offering a mesmerizing experience that speaks to the depths of human creativity and devotion.

While it may be showing signs of aging and could benefit from some renovations, it still remains a great choice for those seeking a relaxing experience. The spa offers gift cards for various occasions, including bachelor/bachelorette parties, young parents, and newlyweds. Children are not permitted at the location, ensuring peace and quiet for all visitors.

A perfect place to relax

Nice Spa, friendly staff and good parking. We unfortunately had to wait almost 40.min to get in, as they have a limit to how many people they let in. Once inside we enjoyed our two hour stay. It’s required to be dressed and you can get a robe and towels at the reception.I had to buy swim trunks at the reception, as the ones I had brought with me was not allowed (shorts).

Martin K — Google review

Worst spa I have ever seen, way to noisy, not clean at all, smelly and way too expensive

anda960 — Google review

It’s not too bad. Pretty clean overall, but water temperature is way too low by East Asian standards. You may catch a cold…On a side note the tacky, oddly sexual murals are fun to look at.

Nice and relaxing place. It's getting old but it's still very clean and the staff is very nice. I think it is a bit pricey now that it needs to be slightly renovated. It does not look as fancy as it used to be. I still think it is great. They also have nice gift cards for all events, including bachelor's and Bachelorette parties, young parents and just married people.

Two hours of Total Relax n Chill in clean, warm and surprisingly uncrowded waters. It was a Saturday morning after all. This was all made possible by a very kind receptionist who lent me the lycra swimming shorts you're obliged to don, (and buy). Mine were cotton. I was just lucky I guess as they were the only pair she had, and I was just a poor boy travelling through.Five stars for quality service ..

Fishey — Google review

Can't comment if it's good, as was too crowded to enter. Went on a Saturday night and there was a huge queue, so must be good. But, i drove nearly an hour to get there and could not enter. They need to put a livecam showing the queue or something so people dont waste their time, when there are 100 others waiting.Forget this location on a Saturday night. Go during offpeak hours.

I love this place but today was disaster. Villa closes at 8pm on Sunday. Before 8 the security guy was hitting the shower door and shouting "get out, we r closing". We left changing rooms at 7.58. I started drying my hair, and just after 8pm the security guy turned off my hair dryer. I left with half wet head and absolute w t f on my face. Crazy!

The Zoo d'Amnéville is an independent animal park showcasing approximately 2,000 species from five different continents. Along with their animal exhibits, the zoo offers a distinctive medieval-style falconry show. Their Facebook page provides visitors with up-to-date information and photographs of their animals, as well as discussing general animal news. In close proximity to the zoo are 72 hotels and other accommodations that can be booked through Hotels.com for as low as /night.

We had a wonderful visit to Zoo d'Amnevelle. The zoo is stroller friendly and my toddler only needed a little help seeing into some of the exhibits. We watched the sea lion and the falcon show and both were amazing. Throughout the zoo, there are plenty of kiosks for food. The prices were a little steep, but not unreasonable for zoo food. We were able to see almost all of the animals. There were only a handful of exhibits where the animals were either hiding or currently not in there. We will be back for sure, we spent 7 hours at the zoo and felt like we barely scratched the surfaces on what we could see.

Justin O — Google review

An older facility, but very well maintained! The place is very large with an abundance of trees of all kinds. You could almost say you are walking within a forest! Start early in order to see everything and to catch all the shows, and I suggest at 10am when it opens (closes at 5 I think). There are 3 shows not to be missed, the holographic, the seals and the birds, and these i put in order from good to better to best. You do NOT want to miss the bird show! Get there early though to get.a spot in the shade, otherwise you will burn! You also have to follow the map religiously in order to see all the animals, because the paths can confuse you a bit. There are 3 locations throughout the park where you can eat either burgers or snacks. If you eat the burgers just remember that the French cook them medium to rare, so if you like them more well done, you need to ask for it. There is plenty of parking, its free and its very close to the entrance of the park. Don't expect good souvenirs from the gift shop though, that was the only let down. All in all its a great place to visit with the kids, just plan on using the whole day!!

Demosthenis A — Google review

Amazing zoo! Highly recommend it, you can find all kinds of Animals, birds and reptiles here! Our little one enjoyed a lot and so did we! It’s worthed as you can spend all day here. There are some live shows too, that leaves you awestruck! Luckily we could witness the Seal show and it was wow! Perfect for a one day outing from Luxembourg or France!

A fantascic zoo with mostly large enclosures, beautiful styled for its inhabitants and visitorsA super bird show showing of both beauty and skil of the participating birds as well as the skill of their handles.Collection of large cats and some of the smaller ones, nicely done savannah, and must see bear enclosures, one of a wolverine living together with a brown bear.A bit on the pricy side @ €33,- / adult, but with free parking and afordable hotel near.Dinks are proced as expected €2,50 for 33cl (2022) foor on the more expensive side.I would recommend a full day if you are fast, multiple days if you observe or photograph animals. Worth a few hours travel

Jeroen B — Google review

Very nice place to visit with kids and family. Lots of restaurants inside and in the surroundings.Show of birds it's a really good surprise, worth to see the 30 min presentation - check their schedule.Gorilla was amazing, so human eyes, you can talk to their souls.Few nocturnal animals, of course, were sleeping.35min from Luxembourg and usually don't need to book in advance. Around 32 euros per person.

Fernando V — Google review

Some of the animals where not visible and some were asleep all the time, this zoo is very manageable and you can easily see it all in one day ,unlike some zoos I’ve been too, most of the feedings are not worth waiting for,I will say tho the sea lion show is very good.

Sebastian ( — Google review

For being a Zoo it’s great for kids, the shows are nice and the animals are overall visible. 1 day trip well deserved. For adults it’s a little tougher depends on your view on zoos and animals in captivity… Personally feel a little sad for them and the elephants are so sad.

Iacopo B — Google review

A zoo worth travelling to! I was surprised with how large the zoo was and how many animals there were to see. The zoo is designed beautifully and creates a very enjoyable environment. The animals also look very well looked after and energetic. I have visited many zoos where the animals are usually quite lethargic but the animals here certainly had personality! Thoroughly entertaining! One negative is that in the cafe area the ground was very active for mice.

Jessica N — Google review

It is a great Zoo! It was better when they did the Tiger Show and when they had Tiger world but still a cool zoo. I was surprised that there was no replacement Show? We saw the Sea Lion Show and it was good!

Jasmin ? — Google review

Most animals looked sleepy or depressed. Do they give them tranquilizers? The gorilla looked like he was thinking stuff. He should be released back to nature. The raccoons were too thin. They need to eat some junk food. The zoo and its restaurants were seriously overpriced.

Dimitris B — Google review

There is a very large free car park near the zoo, well organized. The zoo itself has a wonderful selection of animals to admire. We feel that a lot of emphasis is placed on the animals living in as realistic an environment as possible. The animals and the enclosures appear well cared for. The large number of species delights young and old. There is also a petting zoo and a playground for the kids. Tip: Take a picnic with you. The food could really improved and it's from our point of view overpriced.

Marcus S — Google review

A wonderful experience, but it is better to provide professional trainers for marine animals (seals) in order to provide better offers. I believe that the polar bear needs better care and cleaning of its swimming pool.

Ahmad A — Google review

Nice place to visit in your spare time. Takes more than 2 hours to see all the animals. Guide map might be confusing at times and you might need to pass through same place more than once. But overall a positive experience.

Vüqar C — Google review

Really beautiful light display. Kids absolutely loved all the animals and candy. The beach scene is very impressive. Highly recommend visiting this winter!

A nice and big Zoo, it has many sections from different continents of the world. There is a huge free parking around it. The tickets costs 35€ and not 17€ as mentioned on google maps. Overall, it was nice to visit and spend a sunny Sunday there.

Great Zoo park to visit for a day out. We were visiting on Sunday, The parking lot is very close to the zoo. I was able to appreciate many different animals.Very impressive Gorilla enclosure. You can get some lunch in the park or enjoy coffee and ice-cream.

Martyna N — Google review

Once my favorite zoo in France, then the old management did some "dumb" stuff and the zoo fell into decline. Under new management now it's clearly coming back from that brink, there some way to go, but it's a great day for the family and their new projects look amazing like they used to be. Very hopeful for the future.

Rutger M — Google review

Probably the best zoo I have ever been(i visited already a lot), it's not huge but its absolutelly green, like a jungle, Especially in this summer season. Many of the animals have plenty of space, and it feels super clean! :) It was an unexpected experience! I will return :)

Can’t say enough about this place. This is largest American Military Cemetery outside America and they do a great service to these fallen heroes. The staff worker allowed me the honor of folding the flag at the end of the day, allowing me to pay final respect to the 10K+ fallen heroes here. The care taken to honor the soldiers here and the care the staff shows to their memory is amazing.

I visited this cemetery this past week. It is a beautiful cemetery. Stunning chapel. Beautiful landscaped grounds. The gentleman working in the visitor center was extremely friendly and helpful. I am so grateful that the United States respects our fallen soldiers.I stayed in Saarbrucken and took the train to Saint-Avold station and then transferred to a bus and another bus to visit the cemetery.Highly recommend visiting and paying respects to our fallen soldiers.

Vast, fortified WWII complex with bomb launcher turrets, guns & underground train, for guided tours.

Really interesting fort to visit if you like war history of WW1 and WW2. Guided visit is compulsory. We had the one in French, I saw another group in English. Could get damp and cold in certain areas, dress accordingly. Have to climb a flight of stairs, about 140 steps, comfortable shoes recommended.

E C — Google review

This was really my first thing I’ve actually experienced in France. I think it really does show off that France’s Pride and willingness to react to what was perceived as the next war. Really impressive engineering. Multi-lingual (French, English & German) though the German tour got mushed into the English one since there was only 2 Germans to the 5 Americans. Would recommend if you really want to see something that got overlooked but is extremely important to the context of WW2.

Calvin R — Google review

This is by far the coolest fort I've ever been to because everything still functions. You get to ride the little train to the still functioning gun turits to see a demonstration of how the guns move into position. Huge underground fort, really cool history. Guided tours given twice a day by volunteers who keep the fort going.

Very nice placeYou can really feel the chill of the war.Very well preserved.Lot of stuff placed in the museum and you can easily see that they care about historical accuracy. My tour was guided by Quentin and he was giving a lot of details about the complex. If you are into WWII this is definitely place to visit.

Beautiful and lovingly restored 10 kilometers of bunker system from second works war, including arms and uniform collection, and small train. Everything still fully functioning. Great feat of engineering and shows how enemies can turn into friends over time.Kids loved it. Wear sweaters, it is 12 degrees Celsius year round. Tour takes about 1,5 hours. Breathtaking!

Xavier L — Google review

Fantastic tour of an incredible bunker. The tour lasts nearly 3 hours and involves traveling on a train to the far end of the bunker and seeing a working gun move and turn. They have done an excellent job to restore and maintain it.

Graham R — Google review

This place is amazing. Hadn't heard of it but found it when travelling around France. Good for the price which includes a guided tour. We had ours in English and there was a French group too possible other languages but not sure. The young lady who took us round was very informative and lovely. The place is vast and only a bit is open to the public. You can also park your Motorhome or campervan for 5€ a night. There are toilets there but not sure if they are open 24/7. There are no there facilities for MHs.I can highly recommend if you are interested in history, construction & engineering. 10/10

Suzie M — Google review

Absolutely amazing experience.45 meters under the mountain a 3hr long tour of the fortress, connecting bunkers and artillery. With fully functioning 3 story 100 ton turrets. The old ammunition train has been converted to take passengers and transports you from each section of the fortress. They have 4 generators that are over 100 years old and still fully functional (they are turned on once a month, we were lucky enough to be there at that time). There is a full authentic museum in the bowels of the labrynth. The size of this place is incredible.I drove from England to see this fortress and It was certainly worth the journey, what an experience and an eye opener to the brave men who constructed it.Tours are conducted in language groups so just ensure you are there ready for the English tour to start. At 15 euros a head you will not find a better deal on the face of this earth I guarantee it.

Josh H — Google review

Yes, the opening times are weird and yes, you'll most likely only going to be able to get a French language guided tour that you won't understand anything of which is a shame. And the tour is very long when you don't understand a word. But this is still one of the best interwar forts to visit. Wonderfully preserved and maintained with a lot of running equipment. You'll take the original narrow gauge train. See the generator running. The turret mechanism works and is demonstrated. It's fantastic!

Mátyás S — Google review

Outstanding Maginot position to visit. Original working train brings you to gun emplacements which are in full working order. English language tours are on Saturdays at 1415. Excellent guides and a great value tour

Kern N — Google review

One of the biggest still accessible forts of the Maginot Line and only one with still working machinery. Lots of original material present. You walk past different sections and are escorted by a well informed guide. Fun aspect...you get to ride an electric train to go from one block to the next and back. Tour is only twice a day and takes 2,5 hours. In the morning the tour is in French only. Afternoon English and German sometimes also possible. There is a toilet on the site. The resto is only open for a few hours in the afternoon. You can also walk around parts of the complex above ground via a set route.

Cindy G — Google review

A very interesting and educational experience. Mostly well preserved 3-km-big underground WW2 fortress complex. You get to ride a train on the guided tour, which is in French and on demand also in English or German. The main gun still works and it's fun to see it move.

Völklingen Ironworks, located about twelve kilometers from Saarbrücken, is a historic industrial site that has been preserved in its original state. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers a 5km-long trail for visitors to explore the extensive iron and steel production facilities dating back to the 19th century. The ironworks ceased operations in 1986 and has since been transformed into an industrial monument and science museum.

Strongly recommend to visit. Try to get a sunny day because it makes the contrast and visibility and better. Also, try to get a calm day, otherwise climbing might be more difficult due to passing other tourists at small paths.

Saw the 'World of Video Music' exhibition. Was really awesome. Iconic videos from the 80s and every decade since and from many countries. Super entertaining. Liked the format with headphones. Spent three hours there Saturday. Tons of videos but some notably absent. Not one single Michael Jackson Vid. Curious - must be a licensing issue. Some other absent groups but overall totally awesome and worth it! Go!

It was an amazing experience, visiting the whole factory can take up to couple hours and can be tiring but totally worth it. It is really nice that tickets are free for student till the age of 27. Most of the time there is no one around and the direction boards are not good enough that you can get lost, can be a little scary at some parts of the factory.

Eslem M — Google review

Totally cool!! Great example of what the Industrial revolution looked like on the ground floor. If you like steam punk, this is the place for you.

Scott H — Google review

Absolutely epic! I knew before visiting that it was going to be quite impressive but when you're actually there in person, it's even more mindblowing.Make sure to have 4 hours to spend there at the very least, if you plan to look at the exhibitions as well. 5 hours would be much better (we left after 4 hours simply because the place was closing). The place is mostly very easy to navigate, only some parts were a bit more confusing, when you're not 100% sure where to go, but it's kind of impossible to get lost.

Lauma B — Google review

Amazing industrial heritage site, well deserved of its UNESCO status.Internal directions are a little confusing and would have liked to have seen the blower hall without the art installations as it seemed impressive but was so dark it was hard to see!

Alex C — Google review

Well, you absolutely have to visit if you are into ironworks. If you are not, it's still a memorable experience: after all, you get to wear a hard cap.In addition to the factory, there are also some other exhibitions, like a contemporary art thingy or an absolutely-worth-it dive-in into the history of the German cinema, all on one ticket. It also has a King Kong statue. No, seriously.

Igor T — Google review

Amazing place! No words to describe how cool our visit was - just take a look at the awesome photos we took.I was afraid that we will get lost but there were enough signs along the path. It would be nice to know how much more in average time would be needed at each point since I was afraid they will close while we were still there. The personnel was very scarce so we had no clue if they will notice that we are still there. We followed the arrows but somehow we missed on part of it. A printed map together with the tickets would have been helpful. The movies are only in German and French. English subtitles would have been helpful. It would also be helpful to show the way from the parking lot to the main entrance - it was not clear to us which way to walk. The staff was very nice.

Vanesa V — Google review

Amazing. This is a hugh site and we spent over 3 hours looking around.Preserved since its closure, it seems to be largely complete and just stuck in time, like the workers went home one day and everything cooled into quiet stasis. It is free to enter on Tuesday afternoons. Otherwise it will cost you 17 euro but well worth it in my opinion.

John S — Google review

Amazing expedition. I also attended the public tour and would definitely recommend, it brought the history to life!On your own, the information panels are really good and come in German, English and French. The self-guided tour is good to navigate with the map of the plant you receive.

Sophia — Google review

An amazing place full of history. Sport shoes are mandatory to do the 8k steps of all circuits. Allow 4 to 5 hours to visit everything.

Mehdi E — Google review

For something monstrous by size and built in the 19th Century, this is a place to visit to understand how Manufacturing existed in those eras. The screenings aren't usually children friendly, so be aware.Ensure to walk up to the highest point without fail.

Ari R — Google review

Amazing location, looks like they just packed up and left. Very large complex and there is a lot to see, walking routes are somewhat indicated but I still found it easy to get lost. You can easily spend a whole day here to see everything. Really speaks to the imagination of how people worked here for decades to build the raw materials for our society. Highly recommend

Tom H — Google review

The most unique experience we've ever made. Historical, massive, impressive and literally breathtaking. In addition there's currently the 'Urban Art Benniale' and 'Der Deutsche Film' exhibition in the big halls at the start. We bought a one day ticket and took tons of photos. Since we stopped almost every 5 meters to take in the environment, we didn't accomplish seeing everything in the around 5 hours we spent there, so we will definitely swing by for a second visit! The signposting for the route can be a little confusing, but for us it actually became a fun game to spot all the arrows on the way at some points :) We went on a public holiday and it was very pleasant in the morning right after the ironworks opened regarding the crowds. Got fuller in the afternoon hours. Recommend good and flat shoes for the upper platforms, because there are plenty grids including the stairs to walk on. We highly appreciate the fact that we live in a time where locations like this still exist and are open to educate the public. If you have an eye for detail there's LOTS to discover and cherish! 10/10 recommendation.

izzy — Google review

Great place to spend some time here. Wish the place has better directional signage around. The entrance to purchase tickets is next to the cafe. They put the film poster right in front and it’s quite misleading. Enjoyed the science place the most.

If you are not sure about visiting a steel works as a historic landmark think no more and go. It is incredible, huge, and just try to imagine what life must have been like while it was a working mill.I would visit again if I'm in the area.We loved it.We did get a bit lost at times so the signage could be improved.

Peter S — Google review

Fabulous...If you like walking sround touching and smelling machines and industrial heritahe, this place is perfect...Cinema exhibition in the Blower Hall is surreal, enigmatic and slightly dystopian. .Worth a few hours, free parking, cafe on site and plenty to see..

David C — Google review

This was a very cool experience, so glad we stopped here. It seems like they are currently working on a new exhibition/renewing the signs. We did read the same information a couple of times and got a bit lost with the order of things. The day we went it was incredibly hot, but luckily there’s lots of shade. It was fun to wear the helmets and there were lots and lots of stairs to climb with an amazing view of the entire site (this was optional). We were very glad we stopped here. It’s amazing something like that had been preserved!!

2024The Völklingen Ironworks, a cultural landmark close to Saarbrucken in the Saarlands, has been a UNESCO protected site since 1994.Founded in 1873 and decommissioned in 1986, Völklinger Hütte stands as the first industrial monument of the industrial era. This location is rock in history, including the Dark ages. I have always been a lover of abandoned industrial areas, aside from other monuments that might have been constructed for different purposes, these areas were a crucial in igniting the industrial revolution.Google maps indicates where it is, easy find.Students under the age of 25 are admitted free of charge, while others fees apply.Visit official website for information on priceing and opening hours. You must spend at least three hours here because this location is enormous, with many strata covering history, death survival, and a host of other dubious and irrefutable feelings.A film exhibit was taking place, and this place doubles as a gallery. This area has an uncanny aura; if you find dim, cramped spaces uncomfortable, please endure and appreciate the enormity of this site. One of Germany's must see locations.

Aakash R — Google review

We loved the place. It’s very close to urbex / abandoned places in terms of atmosphere but better tended to, and more informative as well as arty. Would actually love more info even, at times we wanted to understand more but there weren’t enough texts. Still a large, cool complex that takes a few hours to explore.

&Tilly [ — Google review

We didn't really knew what to expect but the Völklinger Huette turned out to be one of the highlights of our holiday. You can easily spend a whole day here. It's huge! It was truly amazing with art surprising you constantly.I've reccomended this place to several friends. Definitely go here!Tip; Bring a bottle of water. It was very hot the day we visited and we couldn't find anything on the premises where beverages were sold. There is a cafe with terras but it's outside the Völklinger Huette.

Catholic cathedral

Sights & Landmarks

The Notre Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg is a beautiful Gothic cathedral that was built between 1613 and 1621. It features ornate columns and stained glass from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as Neo-Gothic confessionals. This cathedral is a must-see for visitors to Luxembourg City.

Very beautiful cathedral, we were there in Easter Sunday it was not crowded, unfortunately we didn’t manage to see any ceremony, but still very impressed by the art and sculptures and architecture. You can feel the positive energy and definitely the best place to pray, meditate and light a candle

Ruzanna K — Google review

For a country’s main cathedral it's a little underwhelming. There are provincial churches and chapels elsewhere in Europe that are larger and more impressive. That being said, Luxembourg is a small country so it's kinda understandable.I'd still recommend a visit if you're in the vicinity, but I would travel far out of my way to see it.

Daniel E — Google review

This Gothic Style Cathedral is beautiful and one of the must visit destination in Luxembourg. It is known as one of the beautiful Buildings. It is free to enter and visit. It looks really nice and quiet in the inside . You can sense peace inside. The cathedral is best seen in the early morning hours, when the sun shines through the stained glass windows!

Simran M — Google review

The cathedral is just absolutely breathtaking and truest stunning. We took a walk around the grass and there was a lady playing the violin which was just beautiful. There are some statues and round the back are toilets which is 2 euros. Highly recommend to go and see.

Kathryn M — Google review

What an absolutely gorgeous cathedral! It was calm and peaceful inside, the stained windows are beautiful. There is also a small staircase that leads to the crypt, wwhich is also worth visiting.

Awani R — Google review

To begin with, the current Google map location is *wrong*..The cathedral is really beautiful. We visited Luxembourg during New Year's and we were able to visit the mass as well. The gothic architecture and pretty indoors are just something to look at over and over. They also decorated the church for the occasion.

Piuli C — Google review

A must visit because is one of the most beautiful buildings in Luxemburg. Gothic style cathedral , it is free to enter and visit … it looks really nice and quiet in the inside . You can feel a sense peace inside. The cathedral is best seen in the early morning hours, when the sun shines through the stained glass windows 🤍

Livia L — Google review

A free place to visit, a nice quite church with no queues and a nice gothic interior, very similar to the ones you can find around paris. I liked the art inside and the organ. It is a bit dark inside though.

Mike A — Google review

Beautiful cathedral! An interesting mix between 17th century architecture and early 20th century architecture.

Aly H — Google review

I cannot remember this church ever closing.Well, maybe when someone important gets married, baptized, or dies. I make it a point to stop by to light a candle for loved ones when I’m in the city. It’s certainly a place to visit if you want to cool down from the heat and don’t want to sit at a cafe feeling more warm and several euros poorer. The cathedral is clean, quiet, free, and beautiful IMO even though I do not know a lot about architecture medieval, modern, or what have you.

M B — Google review

Beautiful and no doubt worth visiting! This cathedral is beautiful and breathtaking! The beautiful stained glass windows are so pretty! The art paintings are phenomenal and the architecture is amazing!!

Bon B — Google review

A very beautiful and peaceful place. The tainted glass windows are wonderful, and the overall architecture is well worth the visit. A small detail: they have chairs instead of benches. The organ looks amazing, it must be awesome to hear it play.

Ana V — Google review

A peaceful and beautiful structure with many stained glass windows and large and tall inside. Take note that the location is different to where Google Maps is pointing this. It is near the City Museum up the hill. A good place to take a break whilst exploring and free entry too!

Vin C — Google review

The cathedral is big but not decorated as much as similar ones in other cities. The altar is simple and the glazed painted windows attracts your eye. You cannot tour yourself when worship takes place and even when it doesn't, you should be extra careful not to disturb prayers. Do not forget to check the crypt.

Nikos G — Google review

The position on Google seems wrong as the Cathedral is right behind "Le Ministère de la digitalisation"Follow the signage on the street instead of Google and you will find it.Opening schedule seems also wrong on Google as it's open on Sunday (from 10am to 7pm if I am correct) while Google mentioned otherwise. If you aim to visit the Crypt, please note that schedules are slightly different than the cathedral.Aim for mid day and you should be fine

The Bock Casemates are an extensive network of underground tunnels and galleries that were constructed in 1644 as a part of the Fortress of Luxembourg. The fortress was built on the Bock promontory, which was chosen for its strategic location offering natural protection. Over the centuries, it was reinforced and attacked multiple times, and at its peak time showcased numerous forts across three fortified rings.

really cool and beautiful historic sight! i’m not big into walking but i really loved climbing and seeing everything. unfortunately the tours are closed unless you visit in the summer but i would absolutely come back to see inside. highly recommend and a must see even if you’re spending a short time in luxembourg! 🏰

Regan W — Google review

It is a neat place to explore. If you have children, they will really enjoy the tunnels and it is pretty safe as well. The entrance says 45 minute time limit, but not sure how it is enforced. However, that much time is enough to see it all though. You don’t really need to buy tickets in advance if you go midweek.

Mike B — Google review

Very beautiful and unusual. Be sure to visit the casemates, but do not go down the spiral stone staircase if you have poor physical fitness 😁. When you joyfully reach its end deep below, you will understand that the way out goes along the same steep endless steps, only up 😄. It was a great adventure

Oksana G — Google review

The Mother Nature give them advantages to have such a rocky place and situated exactly in the Center of the city. If you are a tourist and do not have a guide and plus you don’t speak French then it will be difficult to room around and find the spots you are looking for.The city doesn’t offer free internet or there are some spots but very low signal so you have to have your own internet. There are less signs showing ways how to access the Touristik spots , so make sure to really pre plan all the steps of your trip on your own

Ruzanna K — Google review

Cool historic place to discover and stroll through on your own. Great views over Grund. Price seems very fair (8€). A few more signs and informative texts would have helped.

Mimo F — Google review

Fun stop with lots of history! Sold out online for days, but tickets were available for an entrance in an hour. Busy, but they do a good job of keeping the casem*nts not overly busy. Don't miss the side route near the exit that goes under the road. Spiral stairs carved into the rock to the left of the steps up to the exit. It is a lot of steps...you've been warned! Down and then back up.

Jeff — Google review

Very lovely and impressive views of the valley from the walls at the top and from the lookout points throughout. There is fascinating and multi layered history in the landmark, having served as a fortress for hundreds of years

Katherine K — Google review

For the tourists: apparently not everybody of the staff speaks English here! I thought Luxemburg was an international city but French is the language here. You get a booklet with text in the Casemates, but that's it. You have to figure out for yourself the trail inside and read in the booklet what there is to see from point to point. I think audio guide will do this place some good.Inside there are two canons. But overall the rooms where empty. I only give this 3 stars because of the building itself. Not because of the €8 (!) you spend for a visit of 30 minutes. It was also not clear at the beginning where the trail will end (it's some place else than where you start the trail, so keep that in mind if you need the restroom). The views from the casemates is better on top than in the casemates.

Dinja B — Google review

This is a World Heritage Site.Luxembourg's old quarters and fortifications. The city itself was founded in 963 and has played a significant role in European history throughout the centuries. We came during winter so weren't able to visit the tunnels but we were able to walk around the top parts and get some amazing views of the city. This is a must if you are in Luxembourg.

1girl 1 — Google review

The view is indeed beautiful and also a good place to get your excellent photos as well. The paid city tour bus starts from this point. Also this will be always quite crowded as it is a famous place to get that balcony view.

Aparna K — Google review

Great to see such a cool piece of history and imagine the soldiers and others scurrying through the tunnels when there was activity to defend.

Jered S — Google review

Loved it, such a great view from there in all directions. Interesting to see what people did back then building the cellar of the castle in the mountain stone.

Steven V — Google review

What an incredible site to see. The views from every spot were great. The history was awesome. It was a complete step back in time and I can't wait to go back again.

Jeff M — Google review

It was fine, despite the fact it being a veery little part of all tunnels. You can walk everything in 45min. There's two exits - where the enter is, and if you go under in the end, one more exit :)

Anastasija M — Google review

A great place to explore and lovely views. Would have liked some more information on certain parts but the leaflet was adequate. Nice to freely walk around at your leisure.

Rachael F — Google review

The place can be reached easily from Luxembourg station, it will drop you to the exact location, where you can easily roam around by foot & explore, click pictures etc. It has an ancient setup with information which you can read and understand. I believe you will need approx 2 to 3 hours to cover upstairs, downstairs and around if you want to cover completely and not rush but relax. When we went there the weather was a bit foggy and cold plus we had to catch our bus for Saarland within 2 hours so we rushed and did not cover full location. But I still enjoyed. Since it was November month, there were Christmas market also which all families were enjoying. Overall beautiful place with no public transport cost so worth visiting.

Meera U — Google review

We really enjoyed it.Nice views. If you are in Luxembourg, you need to visit this place. I bought tickets online at a specific time.

Emilija B — Google review

Great historical place. It's a must visit in Luxembourg. It is a huge underground complex built in 1644 and was used as a bomb shelter during WWII. It's huge and amazing. Lots of beautiful viewpoints. You need a minimum of an hour to explore the place. There is one section that is not mentioned in the booklet, it can be accessed through the stairs from the iron gate room. This section was really impressive and showed the depth of it. Going through each section and understanding the history behind it was fascinating. I recommend buying tickets in advance. Tickets can be bought at the ticket counter as well but they either sell out soon or you have to wait for your time slot. Another thing is it's a bit difficult to locate the entrance/ticket counter. Do carry a water bottle.

Swati M — Google review

I want to say that I live for 3 years in Luxembourg and only by mistake I discovered that we can visit the galleries.❤️🥰👏 The entrance is actually hidden underneath the little tower from Montee du Clausen (Casemates Memorial Point). The experience was quite unique. The galeries are layered (I think) on two levels. The views over the city are special and magnificent (although in my case it was raining 🌧), because the viewpoints are unique🏞🏤. I loved also the light 💡efects inside the casemates. They give a special (modern and old) touch to the visit. You can also see these light efects 🪩 from Grund during the night 🌌.The only thing that confused me a little bit was the fact that there were no signs ↗️(or a map) 🗺 to show the direction ➡️ of the visit, so I got a little bit lost 😆😁. There were galleries that i've seen twice. I estimate that, the duration of the visit 🕑 can vary between 30-45 minutes. For me, the casemates are special and unique. I would love to see them again without any hesitation. ❤️🥰🤩

Roxana Y — Google review

Very beautiful but quite slippery. There were a very long line but we didn’t queue at all as we bought tickets in advance, so I highly recommend to do so

Samira M — Google review

It was very interesting, we spent maybe 1 hr visiting it. Highly recommended.

If you love to learn history and don’t like sunlight that much, this is the place for you.Pros: Great Views, and the permanent exhibition at the end of the walk is well-designed and quite enjoyable.Cons: frankly speaking, the walk itself is long and …not as interesting as I thought.

Military cemetery

Sights & Landmarks

Luxembourg American Cemetery is a small but well-maintained military cemetery in eastern Luxembourg near the airport. It contains the remains of 5075 US servicemen who died during World War II, including General George Patton, who played a key role in Luxembourg's 1944 liberation from Nazi occupation. The care that Allied forces have taken to maintain this hallowed ground is truly amazing.

This place is such a humbling place to visit and the care that our Allie’s from Luxembourg provide to this hallowed ground is simply amazing. This place is elegant, well maintained and truly honors those that gave their lives during WWII. It is a must see location if near the area. Famous American General George Patton is buried here as well.

Chris C — Google review

Beautiful tribute to those that paid the ultimate sacrifice. I was humbled to see all of the graves and to see General George Patton’s final resting place was an honor. Amazing place.

C H — Google review

As a former US Soldier, this was a must stop. The grounds are kept up beautifully. Free parking with plenty of space. It started snowing as we arrived so we made our way into the visitor center before heading to the memorial. Staff are friendly and well informed. I highly recommend this stop as a reminder of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

Brian B — Google review

Very well maintained cemetery, in memory of the fallen American soldiers . Cemetery is accessible via pedestrian path and there is a shuttle bus service running every hour from Luxexpo , recommended for a visit .

Ivan F — Google review

Not enough Stars for this! How humbling and thought provoking to walk this memorial ground! Price paid by these young men is emotionally stirring. Can’t begin to express appreciation! In these photos of my visit I found representation from each state that was at that time. A heartwarming reminder that our great Country will represent and stand! Hope we remember ultimately the Liberties and freedoms we all enjoy were once again sustained and will always be. United we stand!

Kitt R — Google review

I was impressed by the size of the cemetery. So many have died for our freedom. In the visitors center you can search names, get a booklet and sign the guestbook. Across the visitors center is a restroom which you can use for free.At this cemetery is the grave of General Patton. His grave faces the graves of the other soldiers.Lest we forget.

Dinja B — Google review

We have visited the Cemetery with our children and had the most unwelcomed feeling. Firstly we were told that the children should not run around which I completely understand and accept but then the guard followed us all the way through like we were criminals. He didn't follow other visitors (which were very few). I have to add that the children were very well behaved all the way through. I believe the children should see and be told about our history from a young age on otherwise how will they learn? Besides this, the Cemetery is a glorious place of memory, very well maintained and curated.

Tina O — Google review

A beautiful tribute to the 5,000 American soldiers honored here. General George S. Patton is laid to rest here and the memorial is truly amazing. I was very impressed with how well maintained the property is and it really is a humbling experience.

Heidi M — Google review

Visited General Patton's grave at Luxembourg American Cemetery in November 2023. Information regarding World War II is provided; you do not need to be an expert to appreciate this stop/visit. Parking is free and close to entrance. Would highly recommend visiting if given the opportunity.

Stefanie — Google review

This is a beautiful cemetery by the airport I'd recommend for anyone interested in world war history. You'll find Patton's grave and five paratroopers from the 'Band of Brothers' here. It was moving to be here in the winter - the same timeframe many died in the Battle of the Bulge. It's accessible by bus if you're staying in central Luxembourg, but be aware that it's about a 15-20 minute walk (see pic) from the stop to the site. Be sure to stop in the office when you enter as well as they have many details about the cemetery.

Matt R — Google review

We enjoyed our trip to the Luxembourg American Cemetery. It is a beautiful site, fit for our soldiers to rest. The well maintained property is peaceful and well cared for. We stopped in the visitor center first. They had multiple language brochures in a small but quaint well done prevention highlighting some of the individuals who are laid to rest on site.We spent an hour here, if the weather had been better, we would have stayed two hours to walk around some more. The cemetery slopes down, so remember you are climbing out of where ever you end up.We took public transportation to get there. We took the tram from the train station to Luxepo and then found the shuttle to the cemetery. That was the trickiest part. They drive a smaller van and leave on the hour. There isn't a sign and it's not on the screen, you need to go look for it and they come back about 30 minutes into the, go away and come back again. That's how we found them. It was a short comfortable drive and the van picked us up when they dropped on the hour about 5 minutes after.

Kirsten B — Google review

here you can find the final resting place of general George Patton and also if your a band of brothers enthusiast, 5 soldiers from the easy company, 506th pir,101st abdthe grounds are well maintained and the visitor information center is very informative. unfortunately the luxembourg airport is nearby , so the silence can be disturbed by overhead planes taking off. there is plenty of parking and trails nearby. i do believe that there is free public transportation from luxembourg center that takes you to a stop nearby.

A great place to visit and be thankful for our freedom. This cemetery holds over 5000 American soldiers. Most died in WWII during the battle of the bulge. It also holds General Patton. He did not die at war but rather a car accident. So many here that never made it home to the USA after the war yet they fought for the freedom we have every day. Thank you to all that serve.

We visited on a cloudy, cool, and breezy day. Perhaps, that made the experience more solemn. I was moved by the sight of the memorials and fields of grace markers, Crosses and Stars of David. It's a beautiful sight.

I visited this military cemetery for the first time in 2022, but I didn't like it that much back then. It was pretty well attended back then. But today I liked him quite a bit. It's just a typical American military cemetery. I also had a mission today, I wanted to find Day G. Turner's grave. He is the only soldier in this cemetery with the Medal of Honor. You can of course look in the register where this grave is, but that would be too easy. After 15 minutes I found the grave.

A beautiful town, situated on the river Saar, with vineyards on the steep sides of the valley. Very picturesque, and with a castle, waterfall in the town centre, and an old bell foundry. There are lots of good walking trails around too.

Lovelytown to visit. Also great to visit with lottle children, as the town isn't that big. Fun to walk through, nice waterfall, churches and vantage points

Tiny village, not worth going, especially if you're disabled (no wheelchair accessible accommodation or restaurants). Bars close early. Non-existent public transport system within village itself. A lot of the local places only take cash, not cards so be prepared to walk around with a wad of cash.Best time to go is summer. Avoid any time before May and after September. It's very cold and humid.Waterfall is nice.

Hiking Trails

A modest hike through forested terrain leads to this landmark waterfall under a quaint bridge.

It is a must visit site.An imaginable beauty. It is an absolutely unique scene and a magical calming water sound. You feel that you deeply immersed in the nature and find a very strong inner resistance to leave the place. Even after leaving you still hear the water sound and smell the air freshness and feel attracted to it.

Ehab M — Google review

A wonderful place that fills you with positive energy. I was there in March, when nature was still not awake from its winter sleep and it was so beautiful. I can't imagine what it will be like in the summer, when everywhere will be green and the trees will be green and there will be dense vegetation in the area. I will definitely be there again!!!

Nurselin O — Google review

Nice little creek on the larger trail route. The car parking is 500m away from the cascade. You can either take the hiking route or the sidewalk to the place

Ranajit B — Google review

This was an adorable place to go if you enjoy hiking. It’s free of charge and a great day trip with the family. We took our dog and cat and they seemed to love it.As far as parking on the weekends, there is a huge field to park vehicles. We got there pretty early (around 8am) and we got front row parking. Anything in the afternoon, you can expect parking to be filled up.If the place is packed, there are plenty of trails just across the street to explore and are filled with adventure while you wait. I highly recommend!

Hannah M — Google review

One of the beautiful waterfalls I have seen. It is very impressive. The bridge has made waterfall more attractive. Sitting there, watching the waterfall, the sound of the water flow was so peaceful. We got down at the Parking Schiessentümpel bus stop and took a hike rounte no 1. After the water fall you can hike further to rounte 2 or route 2+3.

Swati M — Google review

Recommend to get here early as it's busy, I was there 10am on a Sunday morning and it had 10 people already there capturing photos/selfies/birds/nature.Must see on the trail of course 5/5.Highly recommend a further hike into the trail from here, I hiked into Germany from here, was 11 miles and ended up at Bollendorf

Marcus — Google review

Beautiful little waterfall to visit. Car park only 500m away, so great for young adventurers, too.Can be included as part of longer trail walks.

Dickon B — Google review

The trail to the fall isn't much to write about, the fall is beside a busy road so you can hear the traffic from the falls. The falls are a nice spot for a small picnic. There are large boulders in the stream where one can climb over and take pics like the ones I've posted.

Hassan A — Google review

An amazing experience! Everything around it so pretty everyone seem happy walking and hiking it’s definitely worth going there it’s a very positive beautiful place

Toosha A — Google review

Beautiful waterfall, perfect lighting always due to forest around. 20mins walk from parking.

Parag D — Google review

Wonderful experience of trekking to this waterfall.Good bus service from Luxembourg to Müllerthal Schiessentümpel waterfall. There's a bus stop called Schiessentümpel Parking, where you get the bus to connect Luxembourg at the end.

Abhilash N — Google review

Stunning place, you don’t even notice it’s right next to the road. Expect it’s very busy during the summer as even in March there were quite a few people around.

Rainbows R — Google review

Lovely hiking area. You can spend a little or a lot of time here. The waterfall is small but the scenery is beautiful for enjoying and photographing. SomePeople were even swimming/wading in the water. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend other visit. I wish we had all day to explore the trails.

Luke P — Google review

It’s on the Mullerthal trail route2.It’s a very small waterfall, but a nice picnic spot with kids. You can dip your feet in the water, scenic view.Natural rocky structure gives you little adventurous feels.A quick walk from parking.Good on a summer day in deep forest, walkway with a parallel road.

Swetha N — Google review

Excellent hike and a small but nice waterfall, check weather before visiting.Carry your swim shorts if you wish to take a dip in the water. Can be a nice picnic spot, bring your own supplies though No shops near by.A free parking 500m away is best for your carNo entry fees, no charges at all.

Swapnil J — Google review

Such a beautiful waterfall! So picturesque with the fairy like bridge. Parking is easy with a lovely 500m walk to the falls. There’s an incredible play area just down the road.

Our F — Google review

Much recommended for any tourists, but also great for locals who are not from the area. You'll find an absolutely beautiful river/waterfall scenery for walking that also allows for a cooling off swim in the river, in the summer. Furthermore, there are a bunch of fossils everywhere (small fossil snail shells etc.) and its proximity to Echternach and other touristic spots, make this a must-see

Pg P — Google review

A wonderful path to enjoy nature.Includes some man-made paths connecting sublime places, please respect the cleanliness, leave it as you found it, or even cleaner… Enjoy it, even bare-foot if you like!

Castle

Sights & Landmarks

Vianden Castle is a hilltop fortress that was erected between the 11th and 14th centuries. It presently houses exhibits on medieval history. Its unique design is the result of extensive restoration efforts in the 20th century, following its complete destruction. Visitors can explore different historical periods, from Roman times to the present day, through walkways on lower levels. The open-air Byzantine Hall and Gothic polygonal chapel with a central well are notable features of this castle.

Nice place for a one day trip. You can easily get there by car and park for free in front of the castle or park in the town near the river and get there by the lift. It costs 7.50€ for both ways and 5 for a one way ticket. The castle is easily manageable for 1 hour and one can get an audio guide for a low price.

Stanislav Y — Google review

Petting the castle’s chickens absolutely made my day. The chickens are so calm and friendly. The castle is interesting and we were all done within 2 hours. The cafe has a selection of pastries, drinks, and soup. We had soup, ice cream and eclair. There is a free toilet at the entrance and a bigger free restroom upstairs in the castle. There was plenty of parking when we arrived at 10am on a Saturday. It filled up when we left around 12:30pm. It costs 1€/hour and you walk strenuously uphill about 5 minutes to get to the castle. Card is accepted at the kiosk farther back in the parking lot. Press the white button on the kiosk for how many hours you want (press multiple times for more hours), then press the green button, and then hold your card up to pay. It was tricky to use.

Nguyen N — Google review

This castle is one of our favorites! The town is lovely and the castle is well restored. You can see some of the older foundations and several of the rooms are staged as they would have been when the castle was in use. The tour flies will and there are so many great views. A must-see in Luxembourg!

Ian H — Google review

This castle is beautiful. You will see a lot of history there. When you buy tickets don’t forget to pay 2€ for audio guide. They give a map of the castle with point of interest and you just follow the map. It took two hours for us to make the whole journey. I highly recommend to visit the castle for everyone.

Viktor — Google review

Definitely worth the cost and a very nice display of architecture and artifacts. Bathrooms were very clean. The walk to and from the castle involves a steep climb. Several people we met in the town of Vianden could not make it up, but many people were just fine.

Chad W — Google review

One of the most beautiful castles that I have ever seen. Tickets cost 10€ per person and there is a small restaurant and a souvenir shop inside the castle. The castle itself has an amazing history and offers a stunning view on the country around it. There are several parking lots nearby even though they are kind of small. The parking costs around 1€ per hour.

Silvia B — Google review

Absolutely amazing! The audio guide is really well done. Unluckily there were somme signs that were written exclusively on German. Despite this, the castle deserves the 5 stars. Pretty well conserved and nicely put together so everyone can understand the history.

Alan G — Google review

A well preserved castle. Good views and well maintained. What i did not like, the audio guide was not loud enough in hallways, - app would have been a wiser choiceIf you have a stroller, be sure you get well trained in you gym before the visit. Many interesting parts were barricaded, and no one could access. The view from far away - outside was stunning.

Mithun S — Google review

Beautiful Castle at the top of Vianden. €10,- per person entrance fee. The outside of the castle is more beautiful than the inside. A lot of text signs and not really interactive. We heard a lot of people saying it was all old stuff and not really interesting.

Rene T — Google review

So super impressed by this place. The castle itself has been lovingly restored, the market stalls and the entertainment were an unexpected surprise. The most impressive was the info centre beside the castle, this was awesome and presented the history concisely and engaging. Highly recommend if in the area, or make a trip from the city

Krisann J — Google review

Very nice presentation of the castle's history in the visitor centre. The castle is worth a visit. Fully furnished with original pieces, beautiful views. Just prepare for walking a lot to the hill.

Viktor S — Google review

This is a must see in every trip to Luxembourg. The castle is in great condition and it has great infrastructure. Unlike Larochette, you must pay for parking (it was 2 euros for 3 hours) and visit to the castle (10 euros per adult). It was worth it! The visit took around an hour and we had a snack in the castle’s restaurant. The prices there was fair and the food was delicious. Every room of the castle is worth visiting. Even the tavern can be visited. Great visit through and through.

Juliana S — Google review

An amazing castle to visit in Luxembourg. We visited in February, so overcast and a little rainy but that did not stop the enjoyment. Highly recommended if you are in the area!!

Simon B — Google review

Vianden Castle is a medieval fortress located in Vianden, Luxembourg. The Castle is located at an elevated hill visible to the road. It stands majestically overlooking the picturesque town of Vianden and the Our River. Te castle offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The location is very easy to find, and so is parking and entrance. Inside you may buy tickets, and also seek assistant of a tour guide or audio tour subject to relevant charges. Inside of it are the models, plans and diagram of the Castle in different ages. The castle has a rich history dating back over a thousand years and showcases a blend of Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. It's one of the largest and most well-preserved castles in Luxembourg, attracting visitors from around the world to explore its impressive battlements, towers, and inner courtyards.

Niroshan P — Google review

Nice castle located in a small beautiful village. Entry cost is 10 euros per person. You can spend around 2 3 hours here exploring the castle. Parking spaces are available in the road side. Good place to have a nice evening.

Ishanka H — Google review

Such a great audio guide and clearly marked tour. Everything was set up so well, and it was visually stunning. The visitors center was like an additional museum, with so much more information about the castle and its place in the world. It didn't feel huge, but we spent three hours here. The cafeteria is nice, too. Definitely worth the trip.

Eliza B — Google review

Well worth a visit. Beautiful location and views. Brilliant audio guide tour. Cafe and gift shop open to those interested. Can walk up to chairlifts and get lift up or down to main town. Highly recommend

Ciara C — Google review

Visiting the castle in Vianden was an unforgettable experience for me. The castle is one of the most beautiful and largest monuments of Romanesque-Gothic architecture in Europe. It was built on the site of a former Roman watchtower, and for centuries was the seat of the Dukes of Vianden and the Nassau family. The castle has many interesting halls and rooms that can be explored on your own or with an audio guide. I admired, among others a Byzantine gallery, a banquet hall with tapestries, a bedroom and a banquet room with a fireplace. On the information boards you can learn many interesting facts about the history of the castle and its inhabitants. The castle was restored in the 1970s and is now open to the public.Visiting the castle was not only a history lesson, but also an opportunity to admire the beautiful views of the town of Vianden and the Our River valley. From the castle terrace you can see picturesque landscapes, charming houses and the church of St. Trinity. You can also use the cable car that connects the castle with the city centre. It's a great way to see the area from a different perspective.Vianden Castle is a place I recommend to anyone who likes history, architecture and beautiful nature. It's the perfect place to spend a few hours or the whole day. I am very pleased with my visit and will definitely return.

Mateusz — Google review

We spent about 3 hours exploring the castle/palace, taking photos, soaking up the history, reading all interpretive signs and watching the fabulous movie. We thought it was very considerate of the planners to put toilets on opposite ends of the tour! This tourist attraction was our destination today and we were so glad we added it to our itinerary.

Helen E — Google review

How amazing it is to be able to relive the history of this palace. The castle is about 1 hour by car from Luxembourg city. The tickets are 10 euros for adults and 2 euros for an audio guide. Since the guide ( handheld , not an earphone / headphone ) can be heard , 2-3 people can share 1.There was no wait. The audio was very detailed and it was lovely to share the fragments of historical essence as we walked past each room. The large kitchen was my favorite as well as the banquet hall.I was completely mesmerized by the sheer grandeur of the bedroom, banquet hall and the history behind the Vianden Castle. We are so glad that we decided to make this decision to go and visit this. Absolutely a must visit 🙂

Princy K — Google review

After two previous short visits to Vianden I finally got to see the castle from the inside. Some rooms are very impressive. If you’re into a bit of history, or nice views, it’s worth your while. Tickets for 10 euro (adults) and 2,50 (kids). Coffee and snacks are decently priced. There’s also Vianden/ castle souvenirs.

B. M — Google review

This castle is located in a small town. Not many people in the castle and the town.It was a good experience for us.We travelled from Luxembourg by public transport and took us almost 3.5 hours to reach the castle.I suggest going by car and saving your travel time.We found vegetarian food as well.Travelling to the castle was worth the experience.Tickets we directly purchased from the castle. The last thing public transport is free. We didn't pay anything from Luxembourg to Vianden town.

Rohit J — Google review

When visiting Luxembourg this castle is a treat to the eyes.It is located on a hill top so it’s really beautiful in summers. You have to travel 2 hours from main station by train to reach this castle.Chairlift car can be taken from the town below and you can enjoy the valley view from this chairlift.

Malini S — Google review

The sole reason to visit Vianden. Incredible to visit, only €11 and well worth it. The shop has fantastic posters, so much, I bought one and have it on my wall now. Visit the whole castle in all the rooms, views are brilliant. Wasn't too busy visiting in April 2024.

Marcus — Google review

Nicely restored castle with a good quality audio guide available in a number of languages. The castle and the nearby chairlift are included with the Luxembourg card which is worth purchasing of you are visiting a number of sites on the same day.

Scott F — Google review

Beautiful castle on hill top. The bus stops on the bottom of the hill so there is a 10-15 min walk up with some nice cafes along the way. The visit is €10 and you must get an audio guide to enjoy the visit, which lasts around 1 hour. Bring headphones so you can listen to the audioguide on your phone.

Leonardo M — Google review

Amazing hidden gem in Luxembourg. If you are interested in history this is must visit place. The castle is located approx 1 hour from the Luxembourg city. But worth the drive. You will encounter amazing scenes on the way. They have a parking available, but it is limited. You can get an audio guide for yourself in the language you prefer .castle is not very big in itself. But still it will take one hour for you to visit completely. They have a cafeteria in the beginning in case you are hungry. The staff is very helpful if you need anything. there are explanations everywhere so if you want, you don’t need to buy an audio guide

Pratharv — Google review

This is a beautiful castle steeped in history. It's a peaceful place offering gorgeous views of the local countryside. There is a cafe, toilets and parking onsite.Lots of steps inside, so not ideal for the less mobile, wheelchair or pushchair users.

Lorraine C — Google review

Wow, what a blast from the past! Our last visit here was way back in 2014, and it's crazy how my oldest son still remembers every detail from when he was just 3,5 years old. This castle is like the VIP spot for tourists in Luxembourg, and it's easy to see why.The ticket prices won't break the bank either: €10 for adults, €2.5 for kids, and €5 for students with a valid student card. They've got these handy information devices at the counter, and you can choose your language preference, so you won't miss a beat. We opted for the Scan Me app, scanning barcodes at each site for all the juicy details. Saved me from trying to recall everything back at the hotel. You know how it is with kids at museums, patience is definitely not their strong suit 😂.Walking through history here is a real treat, especially witnessing the castle's evolution over the centuries, from the 11th to the 14th. No wonder it's earned its spot as one of CNN's 21 most beautiful castles in the world. But let's talk about the real MVP: the cafeteria. Don't leave without trying their signature soup, Bouneschlupp. It's a hearty green bean soup with potatoes and onions (they even do a mean vegetarian version).Don't miss out on the souvenir area either, because what's a trip without some cheesy memorabilia, am I right?Pro tip: Take some time to wander the charming village of Vianden surrounding the castle, those picturesque houses are Instagram-worthy 😉.

Sari B — Google review

Visiting from Florida and wasn’t disappointed by the castle. The views were amazing, the size was awesome and the interior was pretty cool to see. Worth the trip from Kaiserslautern. Parking can be difficult on the weekends.

Donald M — Google review

Beautifully restored castle that still has that medieval athmosphere. Spectacular views and also a nice restaurant which is still very reasonably priced for this day and age. A visit gives you a good idea on how it was to live in the middle ages.

Erik K — Google review

It's one of the most beautiful castles i have ever visited. I recommend you pay 2 eur extra for the audio guide. it's worth it. There is also a nice souvenir shop/cafe inside.

Slobodan D — Google review

exquisite castle about an hour drive north of luxembourg center. admission was 10€. the drive there was very windy and hilly. the architecture of the castle has a blend of Romanesque and Gothic elements, combined with stylistic features from the Renaissance.the views are spectacular and the the audio tours(2€ xtra) is recommended. there is parking near the castle itself that is very inexpensive(a couple euros for 5 hours). there is second more modern feature just off the gift shop that explains more of the history and you can also view some of the original footings.

Transportation

The Chairlift Vianden in Luxembourg offers a memorable experience with its ascent to a height of 440 meters, providing panoramic views of the charming town and surrounding countryside. The affordable return fees make it a remarkable bargain for visitors. The chairlift is easily accessible from the road with convenient parking options. It seats two people per chair and takes you up to a restaurant and observation deck.

Great way to visit the viewpoint or to start your walk to the castle. You can buy a return ticket or just a single to the top and walk back down.

Wrath G — Google review

Such an incredible place. The views are outstanding. We visited early July and there was no queue at all. The little cafe at the top was amazing. Food was lovely and fresh, frozen latte was a little bit disappointing. Was more like mildly cool coffe with caramel syrup. I think mine was a one off so I’m not complaining too much! Was such an amazing place, we made a 6 hour round trip to visit here again from Dortmund 😂 already planning to come back next year!!

Robert W — Google review

What amaze me about this chairlift is that its trail is leading right above some house and private property. I wonder what kind of house insurance does this house need to have. Just wow.If you want to see the castle, don't go for chairlift. The castle is not situated in the right angle for a view from up of chairlift hill. You can take both ways up and down with this chairlift. Don't hesitate to walk down the hill by foot. I bought return ticket for myself, but the I saw a group of pensioners walking down by foot. If I ever get to Vianden again, I will do that too. And I bet you can also manage.

Jana K — Google review

Was a very good time I’m really enjoy it. The food is ok but needs improve better quality of Bread. I will appreciate the visit I will be back soon. All if looking on Google maps is no seeing but only when you Typing the name Chairlift…..Cheers.

Carlos R — Google review

Such a beautiful chairlift with amazing views. It’s not very big up there but plenty of space to take a nice picture. There’s a restaurant up the top and you can hike back down if you want. There is an awesome hike down to the castle if you wanna skip the walk through town.

Yentl — Google review

A very nice way to see the beauty of this historic village. Stop by the cafe on top and enjoy the view. Hike down from top if you feel adventurous.

Saurabh G — Google review

This chairlift is a great way to see all Vianden from above. The view is truly beautiful and. Once you are on the top there is a little restaurant and you can walk to the castle in about 10 minutes. On a side note at the bottom of the chairloft there is a machine that will squash and print your 5 cent coin with a drawing of the castle.

Dani S — Google review

I would say you only need one way - go up. Walk 15 minutes to the castle and then walk 10 minutes down to the town. You don't need to walk back up and go down again unless you fancy it!

Alex D — Google review

Great experience and very friendly staff. The queue was short and very reasonable pricing. Good way to see the castle from another angle. Large car park close to the entrance.

Ben — Google review

It was my first time experiencing the chairlift. It was amazing! I have fear of heights and I was excited and worried at the same time about how the ride would be and what would happen in case things went downhill. But, the setup was very stable and it was a very slow ride and we enjoyed the view while going up the hill and while coming down. there are two options to select from - one way trip(5Euro for adult) or round about trip(7 Euro for adult). People who take one way trip have the option to either hike down or come via their bicycle. The top of the hill has a breathtaking view of that village in Luxembourg. If I visit the country again, I would definitely go and experience the Chairlift again.

Sukanya P — Google review

My brother, I and our friend have been here and we had a really good time, the conversation with ILham was awesome, she's very friendly and professional, and she was thrilled when she knew we're also originally from her home country. Please give this lady a raise, she deserves it!

Acid P — Google review

€6.50 per adult for a short one way trip or €9 round trip, lovely views. Wear suitable shoes if intending to walk down as it is very steep and unstable. Would recommend if in the area.

Rebecca M — Google review

Such a cool experience! We went with three adults and three kids aged 5,3, and 1. The lift is easily accessible from the road with street parking and a few semi close lots. The Chairs seat two people so we had one kid go with one adult. I wore the 20 month old so she couldn’t have a tantrum and throw herself off. I was concerned we might lose a shoe though - I’d recommend stowing footwear or choosing shoes that can’t slip off like crocs. The lift brings you up to a restaurant and observation deck. Food was ok, nothing great but the view and experience made up for it plus there was ice cream and beer and the staff spoke English. FYI - there IS a trail from the peak to the castle, but it is very steep and slippery and not well marked, though it probably would have been hard to get lost.

Chairlift to nowhere... Despite what several guidebooks lead readers to believe, this does not go to the castle. From the top of the lift, it's a quite treacherous, downhill 600m hike or a 1800m walk to the castle. (See photo from the castle which shows the top of the chairlift). Even if you're up for the downhill hike or walk to the castle, the uphill walk to take the chairlift looks especially not pleasant.
